چکیده

Background Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) represents a new reasonable therapeutic approach in patients with severe aortic stenosis and a high risk for conventional surgery. The most common approach for TAVI remains the peripheral arteries, but in the recent years a transapical and transaortic approaches (TaoTAVI) have been described. In this context, we report our experience with TAVI adopting a direct ascending aorta access via minimal sternotomy (MS).

Intercostal artery pseudoaneurysm: a rare complication of transaortic transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

In this case report, we present an 86-year old patient with an intercostal pseudoaneurysm after transaortic transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). This new technique of a transaortic approach is considered a possible alternative to the more usual transfemoral, trans-subclavian or transapical access site, mainly in patients with extensive peripheral arterial disease. A mini-thoracotomy ...

Transapical aortic valve implantation in patients with previous cardiac surgery.

BACKGROUND This study compared surgical outcomes of patients with previous cardiac surgery undergoing transapical transcatheter aortic valve implantation (PCS-TA-TAVI) with those of patients undergoing transapical transcatheter aortic valve implantation as an initial procedure (initial TA-TAVI) by using propensity analysis. METHODS From January 2005 through January 2013, 267 consecutive high-...

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in a Woman with Porcelain Aorta, Previous Sternotomy for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, and Critical Aortic Stenosis.

UNLABELLED A 74-year-old woman who was diagnosed with right breast cancer at age 39 had been treated with mastectomy, and repeated cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She also had a history of coronary artery disease, wherein two coronary artery bypass grafts were performed 3 years ago. At that time, porcelain aorta was detected during surgery. In the year prior to admission, the patient p...

Direct transaortic access for transcatheter aortic valve implantations with the self-expanding CoreValve® prosthesis: a series of 2 cases.

In patients with severe aortic stenosis and high surgical risk, transcatheter aortic valve implantation is a safe and effective treatment option. Two devices are available for this purpose, the CoreValve from Medtronic and SAPIEN from Edwards Lifesciences. In cases with a poor vascular access (usually patients with a high EuroSCORE, who experience greater mortality and complications), the trans...

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement with the St. Jude Medical Portico valve: first-in-human experience.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility and procedural outcomes with a new self-expanding and repositionable transcatheter heart valve. BACKGROUND Transcatheter aortic valve replacement is a viable option for selected patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis. However, suboptimal prosthesis positioning may contribute to paravalvular regurgitation, atriov...
